Anticorruption watchdog: PM's son's US trip not paid for by taxpayers' money
- No national budget money was spent on Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski's son's trip to the USA, according to the state's anticorruption commission chairwoman Tatjana Dimitrovska in a TV appearance Monday evening.
Skopje, 14 October 2024 (MIA) — No national budget money was spent on Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski's son's trip to the USA, according to the state's anticorruption commission chairwoman Tatjana Dimitrovska in a TV appearance Monday evening.
In an interview with 360 Degrees on MRTV, the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption head said their investigation showed that state funds were used to pay only for the state delegation travelling to Washington and New York.
The anticorruption watchdog has launched the probe following allegations that PM Mickoski's son's travel expenses were paid for with money from the national budget.
"We had the sole aim of determining whether the prime minister, in exercising his powers, duties and public authority, had violated laws and the Constitution," Dimitrovska said.
"After reviewing all the paperwork provided to us," she said, "we found that national budget funds were spent only on the delegation of representatives from state institutions."
She said anticorruption commission members also reviewed receipts for the prime minister's son's plane and train tickets as well as his accommodation. Everything was paid in cash, she said, and no budget money had been used to cover his travel expenses. mr/
