Anthony Dod Mantle holds masterclass at Manaki Brothers Film Festival

Anthony Dod Mantle holds masterclass at Manaki Brothers Film Festival
Bitola, 22 August 2022 (MIA) - Award-winning British-Danish cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle, this year's winner of the Golden Camera award for lifetime achievement at the Manaki Brothers International Film Festival of Cinematographers, told Sunday’s masterclass in Bitola that he has always loved playing with light, and thought he'd be a painter at one point. Speaking to the audience and his host Nigel Walters, this year's Honorary Golden Camera 300 award winner, Dod Mantle said that as a young man he did odd jobs in Britain and Denmark, and then he lived in India for a time, where his grandparents lived and worked. There, he created a wonderful concoction of the excitement of the landscapes and the picturesque social life on the continent, as well as photography, said the Oscar winner.  He particularly mentioned as important influence on his work at different points in his career, the ever-provocative Lars von Trier, then Vinterberg with his film The Celebration, Danny Boyle, whose Slumdog Millionaire got Dod Mantle the Oscar award, etc. He stressed that every film has its own life and shape, so the final outcome can be unpredictable.  Clips from some of his more significant films were shown during the masterclass.  "All cinematographers should do what they love and what excites them," Anthony Dod Mantle told Sunday’s masterclass led by Nigel Walters, the long-standing president of IMAGO. dk/nn/
