Another 27 light armored vehicles expected to arrive by year's end, says Petrovska
Skopje, 25 August 2022 (MIA) - One of the eight key projects involving the Army's armament is the procurement of light armored vehicles, said Defense Minister Slavjanka Petrovska.
"After concluding an agreement last year, the first six light armored vehicles arrived this year. A total of 96 such vehicles should be supplied by 2028. Another 27 light armored vehicles are expected by the end of the year. Armored vehicles are already part of the Army's arsenal and our soldiers are being trained to know how to use them," Petrovska said in a TV21 appearance.
Referring to the additional financial assistance from the United States this year for the army modernization process, the Minister said it demonstrates the strategic partnership and alliance between North Macedonia and the United States.
"The decision for American support totaling to $40 million for the Macedonian defense is a demonstration of the strategic partnership and alliance between North Macedonia and the United States. This is not only a support for us but also for the security of all NATO countries, because we are all part of the NATO collective defense," she stated.
Stressing that the Army is always prepared to respond to all challenges, Petrovska said that it was confirmed at the Flash 22 military exercise, held in April, and the evaluation of the light infantry battalion, which is NATO certified.
"The evaluation of the light infantry battalion reflects the real preparedness of this unit," said Minister Petrovska adding it represents a practical example of how to refute fake news that the Army is poorly equipped and unprepared.
