Andonovski attends cybersecurity panel discussion in Washington
- At the invitation of the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE), the Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, participated in a panel discussion in Washington, USA. The topic of the panel was "Western Balkans Cybersecurity: Progress in National Cyber Authorities Establishment and Skills Development."
Skopje, 11 September 2024 (MIA) – At the invitation of the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE), the Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, participated in a panel discussion in Washington, USA. The topic of the panel was "Western Balkans Cybersecurity: Progress in National Cyber Authorities Establishment and Skills Development."
According to the Ministry, the GFCE is a leading platform for international cooperation in the field of cyber capacities, with more than 200 members worldwide, including governments, international organizations, companies, and academic institutions. The panel featured participants from other Western Balkan countries, as well as the U.S. State Department.
In his address, Minister Andonovski highlighted the recent steps taken by our country in the field of cybersecurity, emphasizing that the recent establishment of the Ministry of Digital Transformation is a key step toward a more secure digital future of our country and will serve as the cornerstone of our efforts in digitalization and cybersecurity.
Andonovski emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach in implementing cybersecurity measures in the region.
“Engaging all social stakeholders is key to our efforts to enhance cybersecurity across the Western Balkans,” Andonovski said, adding that cybersecurity knows no borders and necessitates joint efforts.
The Minister of Digital Transformation also presented the plans for the new National Cybersecurity Strategy 2024-2028. The strategy will focus on aligning with the European Union's Network and Information Security Directive (NIS2), protecting critical infrastructure, and developing domestic cyber skills.
“Technology offers great potential but also carries considerable risks, he noted, adding that regulating the digital space is essential to protect citizens' rights,” Andonovski said.
He also spoke about the country's challenges, including the evolving nature of threats and the difficulties in keeping skilled professionals.
“The Republic of Macedonia is committed to building a robust and EU-aligned framework for cybersecurity. We are confident that with ongoing dedication, international cooperation, and a modern approach, we can create a secure digital future for our citizens and contribute to the cybersecurity of the entire Western Balkans region,” Andonovski said.
Andonovski’s participation in this significant event, organised by the Global Forum on Cyber Experts (GFCE), as stated by the Ministry of Digital Transformation, affirms the country’s commitment to advancing cybersecurity and its active role in regional and international efforts in building cyber resilience.
