Andonov: 90 percent of total electricity needs in February provided for by domestic production

Skopje, 15 March 2023 (MIA) – In February, 90.2 percent of the total electricity needs were provided for by domestic production facilities, while the remaining nine percent were from imports, the government's special advisor for energy Viktor Andonov told a press conference on Wednesday.

According to Andonov, this has not happened in the last 15 years, particularly during the winter months.

"That is why positive assessments are coming, because we managed to cushion all potential risks and shocks imposed by the crisis with timely measures and the right policies," said Andonov.

Andonov said confirmation of the energy policies implemented by the Government has also come from the Deputy Director of the Energy Community Secretariat in his address to the Parliamentary Committee on Economy.

"He told MPs that the Republic of North Macedonia has a very successful level of implementation of legislation in the energy sector, adding that the measures taken by the government as a whole are good and necessary, as well as that North Macedonia is not the only country that has responded with subsidies and state support," Andonov said.

The support from the Energy Community, Andonov noted, is very significant and the government's intention is to consider all recommendations very seriously and to continue the excellent cooperation in the future.
