Skopje, 8 February 2024 (MIA) - Law Faculty professor Ana Pavlovska-Daneva was elected Constitutional Court judge at a Parliament session on Thursday. She was sworn in after getting 65 'yes' votes, with 26 lawmakers voting against the motion.
VMRO-DPMNE MPs voted against the proposal of the ruling majority, and while not disputing her credentials, they said her election would result in a partisan court because of Pavlovska-Daneva's past as former SDSM lawmaker and party vice-president.
SDSM MPs responded by saying that co-workers and associates speak highly of her work as a lawyer, while her integrity is demonstrated by the criticism addressed to both the ruling authorities and the opposition.
The Parliament is set to continue the session in the afternoon, discussing the nomination of Ljupcho Kocevski for Chief Prosecutor.
