Aliu: Technology, digitalization offer and deliver value in all aspects of life

Skopje, 16 June 2023 (MIA) - Technology and digitalization offer and deliver value in all sectors, in all aspects of our lives. Therefore, it is essential that we take concrete steps to improve the infrastructure and connections in the region, Minister of Information Society and Administration, Azir Aliu said Friday, addressing the 2023 Prespa Forum Dialogue session on "Digital Transformation Connects: Perspectives for Building Partnerships in the Western Balkans" as keynote speaker.

"The creation of a common digital market through advanced technology opens the door to a range of opportunities in other key sectors, including infrastructure or education. We appreciate the launch of the regulatory dialogue between the European Union and the Western Balkans, focused on legislative reforms, in line with the goals of digital and green transformation," Minister Aliu pointed out.

Slovenian Minister without portfolio, responsible for digital transformation, Emilija Stojmenova Duh, who was special guest speaker at the session, said success of digital transformation can be achieved if citizens believe in digital transformation.

Minister Aliu noted that the establishment of a digital agency is actively underway, which will serve as a catalyst in the country's digital journey and will focus on four pillars: cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, software solutions, academies and trainings.

"The digital revolution is a reality, but also an ongoing process. The digitalization of our systems, public services and infrastructure has its shortcomings, especially in terms of cyberattacks. That is why we must work hard to take action to improve cybersecurity cooperation in the region by increasing the protection of critical infrastructure and increasing the security of our digital systems and networks," said Aliu.

The speakers concluded that the digital transformation of the Western Balkans presents challenges and opportunities, the Government said in a press release.

"Through partnerships, we can overcome these challenges and take advantage of the opportunities before us. By improving infrastructure and connectivity, by responsibly embracing new technologies and engaging international organizations and donors, we can pave the way for a prosperous digital future," reads the press release.
