Albania's EU negotiations within domain of political parties, says Gashi, declines to comment

Skopje, 26 September 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi declined to comment on the information that Albania will start negotiations with EU on October 15, separating the country from North Macedonia in the process. He stressed that that part is within the domain of political parties.
"I would rather not get into day-to-day politics. Therefore, that part belongs to the domain of political parties," Gashi during a Thursday press briefing.
He noted that as Parliament Speaker he is concerned with adopting laws and implementing the Rules of Procedure, laws, and Constitution.
The Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) has decided that Albania will open Cluster 1 – “Fundamentals” of the accession negotiations with the European Union on October 15, a spokesperson from the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union told MIA on Thursday.
“We can confirm that COREPER agreed to continue Albania’s EU accession process,” spokesperson Anna Atanaszov told MIA. ssh/ba/
