Airport customs agents seize iPhones worth Mden 1.8 million

Skopje, 27 August 2024 (MIA) — During a detailed customs inspection of a parcel shipped to a Skopje company from Dubai, customs officers at the Skopje International Airport found 21 undeclared iPhone 15 Pro mobile phones worth around a million denars, according to the Customs Administration in a press release.
Another 11 iPhone 15 Pro mobile phones and a tablet worth around Mden 800,000 were discovered during a customs check at the airport. A passenger traveling from Istanbul did not declare the items when entering the country but they were found during an X-ray baggage screening in some of his suitcases between the clothes.
Customs agents at Skopje International Airport also seized 883 bluetooth earphones and 1,048 phone covers with the Apple logo, which had been declared as no-name items. The shipment was from Dubai. The importer has been charged with violating intellectual property rights. If sold as originals, the items would have cost EUR 220,000 in total.
Gevgelija customs officers seized 1,920 Samsung mobile phone chargers not listed on the importer's customs declaration. The items were shipped from China to a Skopje company. The total estimated value of the undeclared goods is Mden 374,000. The chargers have been seized. The importer is facing misdemeanor and violation of intellectual property charges. mr/
