Ahmetovic: EU journey to guarantee stability, democracy
Skopje, 15 July 2022 (MIA) — The Bundestag's rapporteur for the Western Balkans, Adis Ahmedovic, told reporters in Skopje that North Macedonia’s path to the European Union would guarantee stability, peace, freedom, democracy and prosperity, so the country should make some compromises to start the EU accession talks. “This week is historic for the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia,” Ahmedovic said. “Your country’s future is being voted on. I must note that the decision, which will probably be made today or tomorrow, is difficult for the Macedonian people and brings with it many responsibilities and obligations that need to be fulfilled.” Ahmedovic said that after waiting 17 years for entry into the EU, the country was now on the union’s doorstep because citizens and the government had met all requirements needed to start negotiations. According to him, the epilogue of officially accepting the French proposal for the negotiating framework would be positive overall. mr/
