Ahmeti: European Front is second force in country, taking steps to prevent majoritarianism

Skopje, 29 May 2024 (MIA) - DUI leader and part of the "European Front" coalition, Ali Ahmeti, told a press conference at the party's headquarters in Tetovo on Wednesday that the coalition is the legitimate representative of the ethnic Albanians in the country, pointing out that the European Front won the presidential elections by a margin of 40,000 votes, while the parliamentary ones with over 30,000 votes more and, according to them, six MPs more than the Worth It coalition.

"The European Front coalition won the presidential elections with a difference of 40,000 votes, while the parliamentary elections with over 30,000 votes and six MPs more. The European Front won in 20 municipalities where Albanians and other communities live and vote. The European Front emerged as the second force in the country, which happened for the first time in the country's history. These results were and continue to be violated through an electoral engineering before the eyes of the entire local, regional and international public. We are starting our journey to prevent this majoritarianism that burdens coexistence and democracy, and we call on citizens to join us in our efforts to protect the voice, legitimacy and spirit of the Ohrid Agreement," said Ahmeti, who was accompanied by other European Front coalition party leaders.

In response to a reporter's question about what measures and activities they will be taking, Ahmeti stressed that the entire public will be notified in the coming days about the consultations with all the coalition party leaders.

As regards the European Front's appeal to the Administrative Court over SEC's decision on the revote in Zhelino, Ahmeti expects "justice to take into account and highlight the impartiality and political agreements that have been made to undermine the legitimacy gained on May 8, 2024."

He noted that the "European Front" and the ethnic Albanian opposition signed an agreement in December 2023 and January 2024 not to join government unless there are constitutional amendments and a guarantee for continuing the European path.
