Skopje, 11 June 2024 (2024) - Energy security and green energy are the two priorities that will have to overcome party politics, U.S. Ambassador Angela Aggeler said Tuesday.
Addressing the opening of the 7th edition of the Macedonian Energy Forum (MEF) taking place in Skopje, Aggeler pointed out that North Macedonia has largely recovered from the unsustainable energy environment, but there are real challenges yet ahead. According to her, the country should finish the North Macedonia-Greece interconnector gas pipeline project, thus eliminating dependence on Russia and threats of certain supply interruptions.
"With the interconnector, North Macedonia will be able to build gas-powered power plants and facilitate the country's transition from coal to other sources," Aggeler said, noting that North Macedonia has U.S. support in the implementation of the green transition.
The forum will focus on taking care of energy security in the region, transforming the energy infrastructure, environmental sustainability, use of technology and innovation, as well as financing of reforms towards green transition.
PM-designate Hristijan Mickoski who is delivering opening remarks at the forum said energy efficiency will be the priority of the new government.
EU Ambassador David Geer also addressed the opening of the forum, reiterating European support for the country's reforms towards green transition.
