Skopje, 25 April 2023 (MIA) - United States Ambassador Angela Price Aggeler sent a letter to judicial and executive authorities on April 11, expressing her concern over the decision of the Skopje-based Appellate Court for a retrial of several high-profile cases.
In the letter, Deutsche Welle reports, Ambassador Aggeler highlights the efforts of the U.S. and the invested US$ 500 million in judiciary reforms.
In the letter, Aggeler expresses her concern and disappointment due to the large number of high-profile cases that the Appellate Court has returned for retrial, noting that the apparent incompetence of the courts to swiftly process cases and their transfer back and forth further diminished the low trust of the public in the courts.
The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that such a letter arrived in their institution. The letter was also sent to Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, the Supreme Court, the Appellate Court and several first-instance courts.
The letter primarily relates to the cases and trials of former officials accused of abuse of office, including the ones involving former secret police chief Sasho Mijalkov and the April 27 Parliament storming organizers.
