Skopje, 12 September 2024 (MIA) - The Ambassador of the United States, Angela Aggeler, said it is “fantastic” that President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova will visit Sofia where, according to Bulgarian media, she is expected to meet with her Bulgarian counterpart, Rumen Radev.
In the interview, Aggeler said the more the countries cooperate as neighbors, the greater will be the progress for all citizens.
“I think it’s fantastic that the President is going to Bulgaria at the invitation of President Radev. These ties within the region are very, very important because they are neighbors, and the stronger the relationship between the neighbors – this is true for the United States as it is with North Macedonia – the more secure, prosperous and stable all of the countries can be,” Aggeler said.
Asked about the naming of new members of the Macedonian-Bulgarian history commission, Aggeler said history is important, but that it is equally important to talk about the future.
“One of the things that I have discussed with the previous Government and now with this new Government is that history is critically important, it has defined us, all of us, our history as countries has brought us to where we are today and not only is it important to talk about the history – and I know that this is part of bilateral and international agreements – but also and equally important is to talk about the future. So, it is my fondest hope that as we’re talking about the shared history that, North Macedonia has with its neighbors and specifically with Bulgaria, they’re also talking about how are we going to move forward on transportation, energy, education and exchange... I hope they’re looking not only to the past but also looking forward to the future,” Aggeler said.
Regarding the U.S. elections and the support for the country after the election of a new U.S. President, Aggeler said regardless of the outcome the U.S. will remain a stalwart friend, partner and ally/
“Our friendship and support will not change. That will remain steadfast, and I can promise you that as long as I am here as Ambassador, we will give everything we can to help support those programs that we have worked so hard on ever since the independence,” Aggeler said.
