Skopje, 15 February 2023 (MIA) — All administrative procedures have been completed for the urgent procurement of the cystic fibrosis medication Trikafta for the country’s most critical patients with the disorder, according to an official press release.

Over EUR 2.2 million were approved by the Health Insurance Fund for the life-extending therapy. The drug is expected be delivered by the manufacturer no later than 30 days after the purchase, the government’s release says.

Later in the day, the release adds, the working group including government representatives and Cystic Fibrosis Association members will meet for further consultations.

“The necessary changes to the legal solutions are expected to be finalized at today’s meeting, which will allow the state to directly negotiate the procurement of the drug Trikafta and make it available to all patients.

“The changes to existing laws, which the working group is expected to complete by the end of the week, will provide a systemic solution, making it possible for the state to procure the therapy in direct negotiations with the drug manufacturer,” the release says. mr/
