Skopje, 17 March 2023 (MIA) - Parliament’s Committee on European Affairs chairman Arber Ademi met Friday with Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Jaroslav Ludva and exchanged views on country’s EU accession process and the constitutional amendments as the next step to continue the process.

During the meeting, Ademi welcomed the enhanced EU engagement in the Western Balkans region in terms of progress and our preparations for EU membership, which was demonstrated by today's visit to the country by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, Committee on European Affairs said in a press release.

Ademi underscored the need for adopting the constitutional amendments as soon as possible in the Parliament, which will require a two-thirds majority, and is currently being negotiated with all parties represented in the Parliament. However, he noted that a two-thirds majority will still be needed to vote on other obligations arising from our negotiating framework.

“Eventually, the Parliament will certainly have to adopt the amendments to the Constitution, by including the Bulgarian, as well as the Montenegrin, Croatian and other communities living in the country. Any prolongation means wasting time and missing the positive momentum for the start of EU negotiations,” Ademi said.

Ambassador Ludva reaffirmed Czech support to country’s EU accession process as well as preparedness of the Czech Republic to share the experience.
