5,500 households to receive power from new solar plant in Amzabegovo
Skopje, 10 October 2022 (MIA) - 5,500 households will be provided with electricity from the solar power plant with a capacity of 17 megawatts located in Amzabegovo, Sveti Nikole, an investment of the GEN-I Group. The construction of the capacity began last year, and the 17 megawatts of solar energy are already being delivered through the network, which was put into operation three months ahead of schedule. Igor Koprivarnik, President of the Management Board of GEN-I, at the press conference on the occasion of the start of work, emphasized that the new capacity is the largest solar power plant that has been built in the country and that it is a key milestone in their work, but also in the green transformation of the region and North Macedonia. - The government has recognized investments in solar photovoltaics as a key step in meeting sustainability goals. The energy crisis affects everyone, the price of electricity is rising, at the end of August it reached the peak of 1000 euros per megawatt hour, which is why solar electricity production is even more important, every megawatt hour is important, said Koprivarnik. According to Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, the investment is a huge step towards realizing the government's ambitions for providing electricity from renewable energy sources. - Today we are not talking about the past, but about the future. We are talking about new projects that should bring us stability in the electricity supply. The largest investment in a photovoltaic power plant shows how a responsible government works, how the institutions at the state and local level can function and how there is a result that comes three months before the deadline, Kovachevski said. GEN-I received 17 of the 35 megawatts that were offered in the tender by the Ministry of Economy. As the line minister Kreshnik Beksheti pointed out, with this investment, an additional 17 megawatts have been obtained, as much as has been done in the past 30 years in this country. -Within 2.5 years, we will have an installed power of over 220 megawatts, and new calls are being prepared, and I hope that we will complete the mandate with over 30 megawatts from photovoltaics alone, announced Bekteshi. dk/sk/
