‘Vodno Lots’ case defence asks court to terminate Kamchev’s detention or grant house arrest

‘Vodno Lots’ case defence asks court to terminate Kamchev’s detention or grant house arrest
Skopje, 10 September 2021 (MIA) - The trial in the ‘Vodno Lots’ case resumed at the Skopje-based Criminal Court on Friday with presentation of evidence submitted by the prosecution. Public Prosecutor Lile Stefanova presented at the hearing notarized documents and payment slips. At the start of the hearing, Jordan Kamchev’s defence asked the court to release the defendant from detention or put him under house arrest instead. The presiding judge, Ilija Trpkov, said that such a request is submitted at the end of the hearing, adding the court will make a decision later today, after the prosecution is done presenting evidence. Defendant Jordan Kamchev underlined that he could have ran if he wanted to and asked the court to set a reasonable bail so that he can prepare his defence from his own home. “I had a temporary passport from May 2019 through November 2020, which I used 56 times from business travel. I last used it four days before its expiration for an urgent trip to Istanbul, of which Minister Spasovski was notified. If I wanted to run, I would have,” Kamchev said. According to him, Prosecutor Stefanova has manipulated data in all six requests submitted by the defence in regard to changing measures, adding that a case will be opened against her. “The Prosecutor claimed that I own companies in Serbia, Croatia, Kosovo and Russia. We’ve delivered data from the central registers of these countries, showing that these companies have been closed and proving that the evidence submitted by the prosecution is false,” Kamchev said. Kamchev also noted that he’s been detained at Skopje’s Shutka prison for seven months despite offering a lot of money, property and stock as bail. “I’m asking the court to set a bail that I can deliver, so I can prepare my defence from home,” Kamchev underlined. His attorney Goce Risteski said that the defendant has also submitted to the court extensive medical documents proving that he’s at serious risk of cardiovascular mortality. Judge Trpkov said that such requests are submitted at the end of the hearing, adding the court will make a decision later today. Photo: MIA Archive
