Skopje, 9 September 2025 (MIA) - Macedonian film “The Tale of Silyan” directed by Tamara Kotevska and produced by Concordia Studio has been selected as the country’s candidate for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards.
The decision was made unanimously by a nine-member commission at the Macedonian Film Professionals’ Association. It has been accepted and approved by the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
According to a press release by the Macedonian Film Professionals’ Association, the commission was deliberating between three Macedonian films – Georgi Unkovski’s “DJ Ahmet” produced by Cinema Futura, Tamara Kotevska’s “The Tale of Silyan” produced by Concordia Studio, and Petra Selishkar’s “The Mountain Won’t Move” produced by Cinéphage Productions.
“In making its selection, the commission, which faced a truly difficult task, was guided by the cinematic value of the films, the ‘strength’ of the story explored by each film, their narrative, dramaturgical, and visual components, as well as the critical reflection on current social and political realities,” the Association said.
The Macedonian Film Professionals’ Association has been tasked with selecting the Macedonian candidate for the Academy Awards since the country’s independence.
