Skopje, 23 March 2024 (MIA) – A special world premiere event for the new full length documentary “Efterklang: The Makedonium Band,” directed by Andreas Johnsen, and produced by the Youth Cultural Center (MKC), Rosforth and Rumraket, will take place on Saturday at the CPH:DOX, Copenhagen’s international documentary film festival.

Following the film screening, all 27 members of Efterklang: The Makedonium Band will take the stage for full live performance. During the concert, the most renowned songs by the Efterklang band will be performed, alongside Macedonian songs and jazz standards in the distinctive folk rhythm.

The new documentary 'Efterklang: The Makedonium Band' is an adventurous and warm reminder of the unifying power and boundary-breaking nature of music.

The Danish band Efterklang has come up with an idea. They want to go to North Macedonia and in just one week - with the assistance of their longtime local friend Grga - create a spectacular performance in collaboration with local musicians, right in front of the architecturally stunning Makedonium freedom monument. The three musicians have hardly planned anything else, as they land in the capital Skopje and immediately begin distributing flyers to recruit band members for their new adventure. The project takes them out of the capital, into the countryside, up into the mountains, and all the way to the political top in their search for allies and the country's unique folk music culture.

Besides the Efterklang band, the ensemble also includes the Youth Female Choir of MKC with 16 choir members, then musicians Stefche Stojkovski, Dejan Spasovikj, Dina Jashari, Iva Damjanovski, Martina Barakoska and Jane Trajkovski.

The film’s production is supported by the Ministry of Culture of North Macedonia with Mden 250.000, the Danish Arts Council and Culture Moves Europe, funded by the European Union.
