New York, 24 September 2025 (MIA) – New York is under the highest level of security measures this week for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
As MIA's correspondent reports, more than 140 world leaders, delegations and diplomats have descended upon New York City, which has put on alert the entire security infrastructure at the federal, state and local levels.
The session is designated a National Special Security Event.

A gridlock alert is in place near the UN Headquarters in Manhattan with street closures and restrictions on vehicle and pedestrian movement, while flying drones is off-limits.
The city has also ramped up police presence in the subway, and the Coast Guard maintains robust waterside port security.
Thousands of officers and K-9 explosive detection units are also deployed, and security services are also implementing measures to monitor potential threats, including cyberattacks.
More than 1,400 cameras have been installed at the UN complex, and video footage is constantly monitored.

Although the measures are causing traffic delays and street closures, authorities appeal for patience and cooperation, pointing out that safety and security of the city and international guests is a top priority.
New York City is under tight security but still the world's diplomatic capital, this time with a stronger pulse, blocked streets, and thousands of people paying close attention to ongoing events.
