Moscow, 15 September 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Ukraine attacked an industrial facility in Russia with drones overnight, damaging the site and several residential buildings in the south-eastern Samara region, according to Russian officials.

Around 40 drones were shot down, Russian state news agency TASS reported on Tuesday, citing Regional Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev. No fatalities were reported.

Ukrainian media said the targeted industrial facility was an oil refinery.

The attack came after US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to refrain from attacking each other's energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on X that a halt to strikes on critical infrastructure could be "the first de-escalatory step" towards peace.

There was initially no response from Moscow.

Ukraine also attacked warehouses belonging to online retailer Ozon in the Russian city of Taganrog overnight with missiles. Rostov Regional Governor Yuri Slyusar said no casualties had been reported. Warehouses belonging to agricultural businesses, residential buildings and an educational facility were also damaged, he said.

Ukraine has carried out heavy attacks on Russia's oil industry in recent months, at times contributing to fuel shortages in the country.

Moscow has responded with targeted strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine and has also hit petrol stations.

Russian drone attacks on Kiev

Meanwhile, Russian drones struck Kiev overnight, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. A petrol station was hit, while one person was injured in another district.

Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia's full-scale invasion for more than four and a half years and regularly strikes targets deep inside Russian territory as part of its war effort.
