Zhernovski denies not handing over credentials in Bucharest, says he'll sue

Skopje, 13 November 2024 (MIA) – The country’s Ambassador to Romania, Andrej Zhernovski, denied that he allegedly didn’t hand over the credentials to serve as an ambassador in Bucharest after Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski at yesterday’s news conference said Zhernovski “formally and legally never became ambassador in Bucharest because he had never handed over letters of credence.”

Writing on Facebook, he said he learned the news of “being illegal ambassador” from outlets.

“I don’t know where these outlets got this ‘genius’ thesis from, but I do know that with some of them we will see each other at court. I don’t want this, but there has to be order, because to slander and harm someone’s reputation and integrity is a serious matter,” said Zhernovski.

As a proof, as he said, Zhernovski posted a photo of him handing over his credentials at the Romanian foreign ministry.

“Where needed, I will present my ID issued to diplomats in Romania, saying I am the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia in Bucharest,” he said.

On Tuesday, asked about the ambassadors Ljubomir Frchkovski (UN), Vesel Memedi (Rome) and Andrej Zhernovski (Bucharest), Foreign Minister Mucunski said Frchkovski had resigned, but it didn’t mean that the internal audit of financial operations in the embassy had been completed.

“As regards Ambassador Zhernovski and Ambassador Memedi, internal procedures are under way at the Foreign Ministry in line with the law. Formally and legally, Ambassador Memedi is still an ambassador. Formally and legally, Ambassador Zhernovski never became ambassador in Bucharest because he had never handed over credentials. Frchkovski is a resigning ambassador,” he told a news conference.
