Zelensky arrives in Bratislava on next leg of tour

Bratislava, 7 July 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Following a visit to Prague, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the Slovakian capital Bratislava on Friday.

He announced this next travel destination himself on Twitter: "Slovakia is next," Zelensky wrote in English and announced talks with Slovakian President Zuzana Čaputová and government officials.

The meetings is expected to centre on additional military support and the integration of Ukraine into the European Union and NATO.

Zelensky is in Slovakia at Čaputová's invitation.

The Slovakian president is among the most determined supporters of Ukraine among European leaders. Last year she called for clear EU accession prospects for Ukraine.

She has been to Kiev twice since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion and, together with Zelensky, has visited places where the brutality of the Russian war was particularly evident.

Slovakia, which borders directly on Ukraine, is one of the most vehement supporters of the defensive struggle there. The Slovakian army donated its own missile defence system to Ukraine shortly after the start of the war and has now also handed over all operational MiG-29 combat aircraft to Kiev.
