Zagreb Soloists to perform at Ohrid Summer

Ohrid, 30 July 2025 (MIA) — As part of Ohrid Summer festival, the Croatian classical music ensemble Zagreb Soloists will perform pieces by Felix Mendelssohn, Frano Parać, Luigi Boccherini and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky at St. Sophia church at 9 pm.
The concert program consists of Mendelssohn's String Symphony No. 10 in B minor; Parać's "Musica Barocchiana" for Two Violins and Strings; Boccherini's Symphony Op. 12 No. 4 in D minor; and Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence" Sextet for Two Violins, Two Violas and Two Cellos, Op. 70.
Founded in 1953 as part of Radio Zagreb, the Zagreb Soloists have given almost 4,000 concerts on all continents, at prestigious venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Carnegie Hall in New York and Sydney's Opera House.
The ensemble has won many national and international awards, including the Vladimir Nazor Award, Milka Trnina Award, Josip Štolcer Slavenski Award (for best performance of a work by a Croatian composer), Ivan Lukačić Award of the Varaždin Baroque Evenings, Villa Manin Award, UNESCO Award, City of Zagreb Award, Order of Merit of the People with Silver Rays, Plaque of the City of Zagreb and several Croatian Porin awards.
During the Homeland War, the Zagreb Soloists gave around 70 charity concerts, with proceeds gowing toward rebuilding destroyed music schools in Croatia, the demolished HNK building in Osijek, the Zagreb Children’s Hospital and others.
The ensemble's repertoire includes baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary music, with a particular focus on contemporary Croatian composers. mr/
