Xhaferi – Turković: Skopje – Sarajevo relations mark upward trend

Skopje, 20 January 2023 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi during Friday’s meeting with Bisera Turković, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina highlighted the excellent friendly relations between the two countries, which are constantly marking an upward trend.

Xhaferi expressed hope that this intensity of political and other communication will continue to develop in the future, Parliament said in a press release.

“In this regard, he urged the parliamentary cooperation groups of the two parliaments to cooperate with each other on topics of common interest. Xhaferi briefed Turković on the international agenda of the Republic of North Macedonia in 2023, which include activities related to the particularly important OSCE Chairmanship, Chairmanship of the South-East European Cooperation Process as well as EU accession negotiations as our main strategic goal. Xhaferi also referred to the economic cooperation between the two countries and the need of launching a direct flight between Skopje and Sarajevo or another alternative solution that would lead to overcoming this existing problem,” reads the press release.

Bisera Turković, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressed many thanks to Xhaferi for his time and noted that she was particularly pleased with the good and friendly relationship between the two countries, but even more so with the friendly relationship between the people of the two countries.

Turković informed Xhaferi about the current activities after the elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the formation of the new parliament.

“She commended our international activity, especially regarding the specific support that the Republic of North Macedonia provides to the Ukrainian institutions and people, emphasizing that we are among the few small countries that have provided so much help in this conflict-affected area. She also agreed with Speaker Xhaferi on the need of launching direct flights between the two countries and noted that efforts should intensify in this regard in the coming period,” the press release stated.

At the meeting, the interlocutors reaffirmed to do their utmost in regard to the action for continuation of intensive and friendly cooperation in the future.
