WTA Finals switched to Guadalajara
This year’s season-ending WTA Finals will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico, the organization said Monday. The tournament, to be held from November 8, has been switched from Shenzhen but will return to the Chinese City from next year until 2030. It features the top eight players in the Porsche Race to the WTA Finals, which is currently headed by world number one Ashleigh Barty. Emma Raducanu, who has risen to 23 in the world rankings following her US Open victory, is 14th in the race. “I would like to extend my appreciation to the Guadalajara tournament organisers and Octagon for their commitment in hosting the event this season and for helping the WTA write another exciting chapter in WTA Finals history,” said WTA chairman Steve Simon. “We are excited to bring our showpiece tournament to the exciting and vibrant city of Guadalajara in this unique year.” The tour’s regular Asian swing had already been removed from the schedule due to coronavirus travel restrictions.
