Skopje, 1 August 2022 (MIA) – Raising the awareness and importance of many different topics related to breastfeeding is the goal of this year’s global World Breastfeeding Week campaign, marked August 1-7.
This year’s World Breastfeeding Week is held under the theme ‘Step Up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support.’
Breastfeeding significantly improves the health and survival rates of mothers and infants. Breastfeeding can save lives, improve health and influence the improvement of the social and economic standing of individuals and nations. Mother’s milk is necessary for correct growth, development and health of a baby, while also being good for the mother’s physical and mental health. Breastfeeding is the healthiest and sole way to feed a newborn up to the age of one, which leads to a healthy population.
The Matrona center for promotion of health and human rights said it has been actively educating, supporting and raising breastfeeding awareness since 2015, having organized more than 50 educational workshops on breastfeeding and the importance of mother’s milk with over 20 educational workshops on newborns.
This year, the center has also started holding educational workshops on the importance of oral hygiene in pregnant women and newborns. To mark World Breastfeeding Week, the center is organizing an interactive educational breastfeeding webinar on August 3, in which participants will be able to participate for free and hear advice from a doctor who will present the most important aspects of breastfeeding and newborn care via expert, practical advice. All participants will be able to ask questions and share breastfeeding stories at the webinar. dk/nn/
