WHO warns countries not delay reimposing coronavirus restrictions
Geneva, 13 November 2021 (dpa/MIA) - The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned countries with climbing coronavirus case numbers against being too late with tightening up protective measures.
"The earlier actions can be implemented, potentially the less actions need to be taken," WHO Covid-19 expert Maria van Kerkhove said Friday in Geneva.
She pointed to the fact the Delta variant of the virus that is now circulating is much more infectious than previous variants.
Several countries are in a difficult situation and need to put "very stringent" measures in place, said WHO director of health emergencies Mike Ryan.
The WHO as usual did not name any particular countries or comment on the actions of any specific governments.
The measures cited include widespread use of masks, distancing, making sure indoor spaces are well ventilated, avoiding gatherings in small spaces and working from home where possible.
