We have stable economic policy in times of crisis, Kovachevski tells Euronews
Skopje, 10 March 2022 (MIA) – In an interview with Euronews, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski spoke about current issues, maintenance of the country’s economic stability and progress, government’s strategy for full EU membership, emphasizing new energy in the dialogue with Bulgaria, which will help overcome the challenges and start EU accession talks. “The fight against the corruption and crime has given results and as we have improved our position on Transparency International reports, we have now went into a country which has democratic conditions in it, because in the past there were deficiencies in the democratic procedures in the country, and we are very happy because of this,” Kovachevski told Euronews. In an interview he said that EU’s micro financial assistance helped a lot to us not only from the perspective of pure financial assistance but also it helped to continue the reforms, which we have started in the field of public finance management and in the other fields. “But it also gave a clear signal to other international and financial institutions and donors with whom we are cooperating that we have a stable economic policy in times of crisis,” Kovachevski said. “We have ensured that with the EU and European Commission institutions we have regular coordination so we have regular reporting and we work a lot on implementation on internal mechanisms in the country and in the public institutions in order to ensure these reforms are done,” he added. PM Kovachevski reiterated that North Macedonia has a clear strategic goal to become a full member of Euro-Atlantic associations. He underlined the benefits of membership in NATO as 30th member state, adding that the dialogue with his Bulgarian counterpart Kiril Petkov is aimed at bringing back trust and confidence between the two countries to foster the country's aspiration to join the European Union, the government said in a press release. https://youtu.be/ufY3np4_Jvg?t=327
