We're not asleep, it's not our duty to oversee traffic safety, State Transport Inspectorate head says
Skopje, 24 November 2021 (MIA) — Besa Trans was fined during four special oversights at the Deve Bair border crossing due to its non-compliance with passenger transportation protocols, but there were no omissions regarding required documentation and licenses, Rufat Husseini, the director of the State Transport Inspectorate, told Telma TV. “During the supervision, our inspectors review the complete documentation,” Huseini said. “The question is when the bus was bought and how long it had been in service. The Customs Administration should say this because it keeps such records. If the bus was not licensed, the Customs Administration should have stopped it from leaving North Macedonia,” he noted. Huseini added that the bus carrier would be inspected at the instructions of the government after supervisors gather the necessary paperwork in the next few days. He also said that there were fewer and fewer inspectors each year and the State Transport Inspectorate was working within its capacities. “We cannot inspect all carriers. We work according to monthly and annual programs. The number of our inspectors has been reduced, and our four new ones aren’t yet licensed for supervision,” the inspectorate head said. Huseini added that the State Transport Inspectorate wasn’t "asleep" but it was not responsible for traffic safety. “The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Transport are responsible for traffic safety. We have often been blamed for such things but this is not within our competence. We supervise documents issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, such as driver’s licenses, permits, and certificates,” he said. mr/
