Vucic: We'll build gas interconnector to North Macedonia, too

Belgrade, 10 December 2023 (MIA) — Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, together with his Bulgarian and Azerbaijani counterparts President Rumen Radev and President Ilham Aliyev, attended the commissioning of the Serbia – Bulgaria gas interconnector in Nish and announced the construction of a gas interconnector to North Macedonia as well, MIA's Belgrade correspondent reports.

"We will build gas and energy infrastructures in general in the future, which is included in [European Commissioner Oliver] Varhelyi's plan. We will build a gas interconnector to North Macedonia, too," President Vucic said.

He added that he hoped that Bosnia and Herzegovina would also agree to the building of a gas interconnector. He also said works for the construction of an oil pipeline between Serbia and Hungary were set to begin in 2024.

"We need to build an oil pipeline between Serbia and Hungary so we can better access cheaper oil," Vucic said, adding that Serbia also needed to work on diversifying its oil supply.

Earlier, at his Nish meeting with Radev, Vucic said that Serbia and Bulgaria could further improve relations.

"We talked about it today and we will make sure to solve some smaller problems that exist related to books and textbooks and other things," Serbia's President said.

"We will solve that, like all other things. When people want to talk, they can solve anything," he said in response to a reporter's question about his talks with Radev.

Bulgaria's President also said they were working to improve relations with Serbia. mr/
