Vucic: Nothing happened today, again
Belgrade, 23 June 2022 (MIA) – Nothing happened today, again. I believe that our friends from Skopje and Tirana deserve to start the EU accession negotiations and this will come as soon as possible. This is not a request because both countries have done what was asked of them and they should really get what they have deserved, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic after the meeting of EU and Western Balkans leaders in Brussels on Thursday, MIA reports from Belgrade. President Vucic thanked North Macedonia Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski and Albanian PM Edi Rama for their fair attitude towards Serbia at today’s meeting, saying it is necessary to accept the proposal of French President Emmanuel Macron over a European political community. “This is the only way to have our voice heard and for us to listen to our European colleagues more. I believe that with the European political community we can solve certain issues together, especially the difficult ones for North Macedonia and Albania, and in the meantime increase the level of cooperation among our countries, improve relations and see what we can do more for our citizens, in the fields of tourism, work permits and other aspects of the Open Balkan initiative, an idea of these three countries that is certainly not forbidden,” said Vucic. According to him, the meeting had good discussions but no concrete results for the Western Balkans. “If you ask me if Macedonia and Albania received dates for the start of talks, the answer is ‘no’, Pristina did not get visa liberalization, Bosnia and Herzegovina did not get candidate status, while many members criticized us about the sanctions. Politics is always about concrete actions. We want to build trust and from that viewpoint I believe this was an important meeting and the summit was a good one,” noted Vucic.
