Belgrade, 21 June 2022 (MIA) – Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Tuesday he had spoken to the Prime Ministers of North Macedonia and Albania, Dimitar Kovachevski and Edi Rama, via video conference call regarding the upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit, noting that, on Wednesday, all three of them will announce their decision about whether or not they will participate in the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Brussels.
“After a consultation with our governments and advisors, we agreed to announce our decision tomorrow,” Vučić posted on Instagram.
Vučić added that with Kovachevski and Rama they exchanged views about the future of the Open Balkan Initiative, as well as the next meeting meant to discuss “a number of issues of interest to the citizens of all three countries”, MIA reports from Belgrade.
“We’re fighting together for a clear perspective of the Western Balkans, even stronger cooperation and better connectivity,” Vučić said in his Instagram post.
The EU-Western Balkan Summit, which is to be attended by EU leaders and Western Balkan leaders, is slated for Thursday in Brussels, before the European Council’s June session.
Earlier, Vučić said that Serbia won’t open a single chapter of the EU negotiations in June. North Macedonia and Albania are expecting a decision on the start of the accession negotiations with the EU. dk/nn/
