Von der Leyen: No doubt Macedonian is your language and we fully respect this
Skopje, 26 October 2022 (MIA) – I promised you that we will sign the Frontex agreement in Macedonian language, without any footnotes and asterisks, on equal footing with all 24 EU languages and today we are delivering results. This agreement is important not only because it strengthens our cooperation on migration but also because it shows there is no doubt that the Macedonian language is your language and we fully respect this, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told a joint press conference with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Wednesday. Von der Leyen assessed that North Macedonia is moving forward on the European path. “I am certain that the EU is not complete without North Macedonia. We want you to be part of us. It is wonderful to see your commitment in moving forward. You have strengthened democracy and the rule of law, you have made progress in the reform of the judicial system and you have developed a solid market economy that is already showing its resilience. I congratulate you on the progress made. I am certain you are committed to maintain this pace so that you join the EU,” said the EC President. She added that the EU is supporting the country and the region in managing the crisis. Grants in the amount of EUR 80 million will be available to North Macedonia as of January. “My message today for Macedonian citizens is that the EU stands beside you, we are in this together and we will go through this together, we will overcome the crisis together and we will move forward to a better future,” underlined von der Leyen.
