VMRO-DPMNE names Orce Gjorgjievski as its candidate for Skopje mayor

Skopje, 6 July 2025 (MIA) - The current Mayor of the Municipality of Kisela Voda, Orce Gjorgjievski, will be VMRO-DPMNE's candidate for Skopje mayor at the local elections set to be held in October, announced party leader and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Sunday.

After a session of the party’s Executive Committee, Mickoski said the decision is based on polls which show Gjorgjievski has a convincing lead against potential rivals from opposition party SDSM, while also noting that he has shown good results as Kisela Voda mayor.

“As Mayor of Kisela Voda, with his commitment, hard work and constant presence on the ground he has shown that he can, and he wants to work for the citizens. Based on the time I have known him, and I have known him for a long time, I can say that Orce is exceptionally motivated first to win, and then to also keep winning every day for the City of Skopje and its citizens,” Mickoski said.

Mickoski also announced the party’s candidates for the Municipality of Gazi Baba – incumbent mayor Boban Stefkovski; Karposh – Sotir Lukroski; Lozovo – incumbent mayor Boshko Cvetkoski; Pehchevo – incumbent mayor Aleksandar Kitanski; Resen – incumbent mayor Jovan Terzioski; and Zrnovci – incumbent mayor Borche Kocev.

The VMRO-DPMNE leader said the party is the favorite in the upcoming elections and this, he said, “means even greater responsibility to do more, to work hard, to build municipalities and to make decisions on important issues”.

“We are running with a selection of honest and non-corrupt candidates for the municipalities, and we will come out with a clear vision and program for the development of each municipality,” Mickoski said.

The party previously named its candidates for 33 municipalities following sessions of its Executive Committee in May and June.
