VLEN leaders meet EP rapporteur Waitz: Constitutional amendments an obligation that should be implemented

Skopje, 25 February 2025 (MIA) - Members of the leadership of the VLEN coalition – Arben Taravari, Bilall Kasami and Zeqirja Ibrahimi, as well as MP Merita Kolçi-Koxhaxhiku met Tuesday with the European Parliament’s rapporteur for North Macedonia, Austrian MEP Thomas Waitz.
According to a press release by Parliament, the VLEN representatives stressed membership in the European Union as their top priority. They noted the constitutional amendments as an obligation that should be implemented for the realization of the goal.
At the same time, “as Albanian coalition partners they expressed understanding for the position of the Macedonians and the sensitivity of the issue, especially considering the previous bad experience with the changing of the name due to the dispute with Greece”.
MEP Waitz highlighted his commitments to the region’s EU integration.
“Waitz expressed his motivation to contribute to the realization of the goal and thanked for the constructive approach. He spoke of commitments for the untying of the knot with Bulgaria and bringing the debate to a rational level. At the end, he voiced assurances that he will strive to draft a positive report on the country, with a positive tone,” the press release said.
Those present at the meeting were unanimous about the need to continue with the implementation of the reform agenda and the need for a joint contribution towards the European future of the country.
