Vanja Dimitrova's 'Nowhere Somewhere' photo exhibit opens at Skopje City Museum

Skopje, 12 September 2024 (MIA) — Amsterdam-based Macedonian multimedia artist Vanja Dimitrova's first solo exhibition of photographs, titled "Nowhere Somewhere," will open at Skopje City Museum at 8 pm.
On display will be Dimitrova's works created during different stages of her career in art film, audiovisual art and photography, organizers said in a press release.
"Nowhere Somewhere" consists of 21 large-format photos.
Vanja Dimitrova (b. 1974, Macedonia) is a Macedonian filmmaker, photographer and visual artist. She majored in Audiovisual Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and has a Master's degree in Fine Arts from the Sandberg Institute.
Her film "Alone Together" (2020) was one of the few films in the world made during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film won Best Experimental Long Short Film at Toronto's Alternative Film Festival; Best Experimental Film at Hong Kong Indie Film Festival; Best Original Idea at Reale Film Festival; and other film festival awards.
Dimitrova's documentary "Locked Storms" (2019), filmed in the women's ward at Idrizovo prison and the Negorci psychiatric hospital, premiered at the Manaki Brothers International Cinematographers Film Festival and was screened at film festivals including the Croatian ZagrebDox Film Festival and the Dutch Eastern Neighbors Film Festival.
Her short "Absence" (2008), inspired by a true story of a war photographer during the war in Bosnia and the breakup of Yugoslavia, was shot on 35mm and also shown at numerous international film festivals. mr/
