Skopje, 27 June 2022 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani spoke over the phone Monday with the Office of French President Emmanuel Macron, wherefrom he received assurance that the use of the adjective for the citizens of North Macedonia was an unintentional mistake, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the call, the French President’s office reaffirmed France’s official position over full respect to the country’s official name, the citizens of North Macedonia and the proper adjectives as defined and accepted by the United Nations, in compliance with the Prespa Agreement, reads the MFA press release. The reaction comes after the statement of President Macron at the press conference after last week’s European Council in Brussels, when he used the adjective “Northmacedonians” when referring to the citizens of North Macedonia, instead of Macedonians/citizens of North Macedonia, as defined in the Prespa Agreement.
