US says military aid returning to Ukraine, Kiev agrees ceasefire plan

Washington, 11 March 2025 (dpa/MIA) - The United States and Ukraine announced the immediate resumption of military and intelligence aid to Ukraine on Tuesday and that Kiev has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire plan if Moscow is also on board.

The joint announcement came after talks between top Ukrainian and US officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in an effort to stop Russia's more than three-year war against Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is not present. Instead, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, and presidential office chief Andrii Yermak were in attendance.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz represented the US, who stopped military aid to Ukraine earlier this month after a spat between US President Donald Trump and Zelensky.

A thawing of relations between the US and Russia had also spooked Europe.

The Jeddah meeting was an attempt at a reset between Kiev and Washington following the disastrous Oval Office meeting between the countries' leaders on February 28.
