Washington, 11 September 2025 (dpa/MIA) - The US State Department on Wednesday said it approved the possible sale of air-to-air missiles worth more than $1 billion to Finland.
In a statement, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said the "proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe."
It will also "improve Finland's capability to meet current and future threats and enhance its interoperability with U.S. and other allied forces," the statement added, stressing that the sale would "not alter the basic military balance in the region."
The proposed sale relates to AIM-120D-3 advanced medium range air-to-air missiles and related equipment worth an estimated $1.07 billion.
As is customary with foreign arms sales, the agency said the US Congress has been informed.
