Washington, 29 May 2025 (dpa/MIA) - A US federal judge on Thursday extended an order blocking US President Donald Trump's effort to prevent Harvard University from enrolling international students.
Last week, the Trump administration revoked Harvard's certification to receive foreign students and exchange visitors, accusing the university of allowing anti-Semitism on campus.
The move would mean foreign students already enrolled would have to transfer to other universities or lose their residence status in the United States.
Harvard filed a lawsuit against the government's decision. On Friday, Judge Allison Burroughs issued an preliminary injunction halting the government's effort.
She concluded that the university had proven the government's order would cause "immediate and irreparable injury" to Harvard.
"I want to maintain the status quo," Burroughs said on Thursday. Her decision is not yet a final ruling.
The US government has given the elite university 30 days to prove that it should be allowed to admit international students. In a notice, it instructed the institution "to demonstrate compliance with all lawful requirements and overcome alleged deficiencies."
