US fighter jet crashes over Yellow Sea, pilot rescued

Seoul, 11 December 2023 (dpa/MIA) - A US fighter jet crashed during a training flight over the Yellow Sea, the United States Forces Korea (USFK) said on Monday.

The pilot of the F-16 fighter jet was able to use the ejection seat and was pulled out of the sea between the Korean peninsula and China by the South Korean navy, USFK said. He is in a stable condition.

The aircraft had taken off on Monday morning from the US Air Force base in Gunsan, in South Korea's west, when an in-flight emergency occurred, USFK said.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

The US has 28,500 soldiers stationed in South Korea.
