Beirut, 4 November (dpa/MIA) — The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) confirmed that one of its schools in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip "was impacted by strikes" on Saturday morning.

There were reports of 20 deaths from the attack. The Israeli military said it was investigating the reports.

"Among the 20 people reported killed are children, and dozens are reported injured," Juliette Touma, UNRWA's director of communications, told dpa.

UNRWA is not able to verify the exact number of casualties, Touma said. The information could not be independently verified.

"The school is being used as an UNRWA shelter for displaced families. Until October 12, the school was sheltering 16,000 internally displaced people," she said.

Touma said at least one strike hit the schoolyard where there were tents for displaced families. Another strike hit inside the school where women were baking bread, she added.
