UNRWA says operations in Gaza may come to a halt on Wednesday
- The UN agency which looks after Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said it could be forced to end operations in the Gaza Strip as of Wednesday night if fuel is not delivered.
Beirut, 24 October 2023 (dpa/MIA) - The UN agency which looks after Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said it could be forced to end operations in the Gaza Strip as of Wednesday night if fuel is not delivered.
"If we do not get fuel that will allow us to continue delivering humanitarian assistance we will not be able to continue to assist people in need beyond Wednesday night, that is tomorrow," Juliette Touma, UNRWA director of communications, told dpa.
There needed to be an "urgent delivery" of fuel, she said.
She stressed that 600,000 internally displaced in over 150 shelters that UNRWA runs all depend on assistance from UNRWA.
