Skopje, 10 March 2025 (MIA) - The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) said it would hold protests in April if there is no agreement for an increase to the national minimum wage. At a press conference Monday, the head of SSM, Slobodan Trendafilov, condemned political attacks on the union and said SSM would not allow the workers to be placed in a subservient role.
“The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia extended a hand for negotiations, but it also sent an ultimatum to the Government calling for an urgent increase of wages and warning that SSM won’t be held responsible for the protests if no agreement is reached,” Trendafilov said, adding the protests would take place on April 2 and 7 in front of the government building.
The union leader said SSM would request assistance from its affiliated unions from the European and International Confederation of Trade Unions.
