Kiev, 21 July 2025 (dpa/MIA) - At least one person was killed and two others injured as Russia launched a wave of drone attacks on Kiev overnight, Ukrainian officials said early on Monday.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration in the city, said buildings in several districts had caught fire, including the grounds of a kindergarten, a high-rise building and a supermarket.

He added that the entrance to a subway station was also damaged. According to media reports, thick smoke was seen inside the station, where people had sought shelter from the attack.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said air defences were deployed and warned people to stay in shelters as the attack continued.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion for more than three years. Russia regularly targets infrastructure and cities deep within Ukrainian territory with missiles and drones.
