Two whooping cough cases registered this week

Skopje, 17 January 2025 (MIA) – Two whooping cough cases were registered between January 10 and January 16. Namely, two Skopje children were registered – a five-month-old baby that wasn’t vaccinated and a fully vaccinated four-year-old child. The two children received outpatient treatment, the Public Health Institute said Friday.

No whooping cough cases were reported in the previous seven-day period. 

One whooping cough case was reported in the period between December 27 and January 2. The child was admitted to hospital for treatment, said the Institute adding it is a two-month-old baby, who is still not old enough to be vaccinated. 

A total of 1,176 people nationwide, with an incidence of 64/100,000 people, were infected with whooping cough in the period 2024/2025 up until January 16.

On January 14, the whooping cough epidemic in Kumanovo was declared over after 107 cases were registered. The Skopje epidemic is still ongoing, said the Institute.

A total of 94,822 whooping cough vaccine doses were administered from January 18, 2024 until January 16, 2025.
