Skopje, 20 August 2024 (MIA) – Two suspects were arrested in connection to a shooting earlier Tuesday in a parking lot near the Mavrovka shopping mall in Skopje, where a man was fatally shot. The Interior Ministry says they know the identity of a third suspect, who is at large.

After the shooting, police have taken operational and tactical measures cordoning off parts of the city, searching multiple homes and vehicles and deploying special police forces, helicopters and drones, said the MoI.

It added that police officers were shot at by people in a moving vehicle trying to escape.

“After returning fire, one man was arrested. Taking further measures, another man was arrested. Police know the identity of a third suspect who is at large. The search for him continues,” said the press release.

In the coming period, it added, police presence will be heightened in parts of Skopje as part of the investigation.

This is the second shooting in the past 24 hours. 

A man in a vehicle with Austrian register plates was injured after being shot at from another moving vehicle on Aleksandar Makedonski boulevard in Skopje. The man was transported to the clinical complex for treatment, said the Interior Ministry.
