Trump says Pompeo and Haley won't be part of his new cabinet

Washington, 10 November 2024 (dpa/MIA) - US president-elect Donald Trump on Saturday said he would not invite former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley or former secretary of state Mike Pompeo to join his new cabinet.
The two Republicans had served under Trump during his first term in office.
"I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation," the president elect said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
"I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country."
Trump has started putting together a team for his second term in office following his victory in the US election on Tuesday.
On Friday, he announced that his campaign manager, Susan Wiles, will serve as his White House chief of staff, the first woman to hold the position.
US media had reported that Pompeo, who served as CIA director and top diplomat, was being discussed as a potential candidate for secretary of defence.
Haley, meanwhile, had been given poor chances for joining Trump's team.
The former governor of South Carolina dropped out of the Republican nomination contest in March after being heavily beaten by Trump in the primaries, however she did not immediately endorse him.
Relations between Haley and Trump had been fraught with personal attacks, with Haley questioning whether the former president was mentally fit for running for office, while Trump targeted Haley, whose parents are Indian immigrants, with racist comments.
